Today’s going to be an amazing day and here’s why…this amazing book comes out in two days! I fell in love with the musical soundtrack (BRING ON 2019) and now I’m in love with the book.
The plot of the show sounds like it came straight out of a YA novel so it’s no surprise to me that they have decided to bring out a novel of the story! From the outside it looks like a cute and fluffy story of a kid finding his way through High School, but it is so much more than that. It’s kind of like an Adam Silvera book meets A Curious Incident. It packs a punch and carries a heavy trigger warning for suicide. But why has it taken the bookish world by storm, just like it has in the theatre world?
The story follows a loveable and awkward Evan who gets caught up in one huge lie when a boy he knows passes away. He finds himself finally belonging somewhere. The girl of his dreams is finally noticing him and he’s found a new family to love. It finally seems like he is having a breather from his crippling anxiety. But how long can he keep it up for?
I really enjoyed my reading experience of this lovely story. Once I got into the thick of it, I sunk into it like a comfy blanket and tore through it. I won an early copy at YALC and it was absolutely amazing! I was also inspired by the flash mob there to record my own cover of Waving Through A Window, you can listen to this below!
Overall, the book is lovely. It reads really well and brings up some super serious topics but also feels like a hug from a good friend. The book itself is full of lovely relationships and leaves you pondering what you would do in Evan’s situation.
A heart-wrenching, real and ever lovely portrayal of a typical teen with not so typical struggles. A way for people to fall in love with Evan be they see him performing all over a stage.
★★★★★ Sincerely, me.
Is Dear Evan Hansen on your TBR? Let me know down below! (Also please be kind about my singing, haha)
Thank you lovelies and happy reading! ox
