Simply Shakespeare #46 – 5 Reasons You Should Read Under A Dancing Star By Laura Wood!

This week on Simply Shakespeare I am highlighting a book I think you should all read. A book I loved with my whole heart, Under A Dancing Star by Laura Wood.

1. It’s a Much Ado prequel!

This is why this book is on Simply Shakespeare. It’s a book, set in the 1930s that is a direct prequel of one of the best Shakespeare plays. It is so clever and joyous and amazing and is a must read by any Shakes fan.

2. Laura Wood is a brilliant writer.

Yep. She really is. This book is stunning in every way from the setting, to the characters. This book does not have a word out of place. I am so excited to read her previous books and whatever she writes next!

3. It has characters you know and love

This book features pre Much Ado Bea and Ben. Two of the BEST Shakespeare characters of all time but you get to know them on a new level, a more personal level. A level that you can’t really get from a play unless you’re watching a particularly phenominal performance. It feels like you’re greeting old friends but also meeting them for the first time.

4. It has some of the BEST romance writing I have EVER read.

Look, trust me on this guys. It has the most stunning writing EVER. It gave me butterflies and made me tear up. It has a hate to lvoe trope (the best) and the kissing scenes will have you swooning for days. (I was sending my friend passages as I went and we just couldn’t get over how fab it was) If you want a book to escape to a book for a bit, and right now, who doesn’t? This is the perfect book for you!

It has the prettiest cover ever!

I KNOW we aren’t supposed to judge books by their covers but LOOK AT IT.

Under a Dancing Star

If I haven’t managed to temp you, here is the blurb from Goodreads:

In grey, 1930s England, Bea has grown up kicking against the conventions of the time, all the while knowing that she will one day have to marry someone her parents choose – someone rich enough to keep the family estate alive. But she longs for so much more – for adventure, excitement, travel, and maybe even romance.

When she gets the chance to spend the summer in Italy with her bohemian uncle and his fiancée, a whole world is opened up to Bea – a world that includes Ben, a cocky young artist who just happens to be infuriatingly handsome too. Sparks fly between the quick-witted pair until one night, under the stars, a challenge is set: can Bea and Ben put aside their teasing and have the perfect summer romance?

With their new friends gleefully setting the rules for their fling, Bea and Ben can agree on one thing at least: they absolutely, positively will not, cannot fall in love…

A long, hot summer of kisses and mischief unfolds – but storm clouds are gathering across Europe, and home is calling. Every summer has to end – but for Bea, this might be just the beginning”

I’m sure you can see why I love it so much now! You can purchase the book here.
