Summary:

In this novel full of surprises from the New York Times bestselling author of WE WERE LIARS and GENUINE FRAUD, E. Lockhart ups the ante with an inventive and romantic story about human connection, forgiveness, self discovery and possibility.

When Adelaide Buchman’s younger brother succumbs to a drug overdose, she saves his life. In the aftermath, looking for distraction, she becomes a stylish, bright charmer who blows off school and falls madly in love – even though her heart is shattered.

Adelaide is catapulted into a summer of wild possibility, during which she will fall in and out of love a thousand times while finally confronting her brother, their history, and her own strength.

A raw and funny story that will surprise you over and over, Adelaide is an indelible heroine grappling with the terrible and wonderful problem of loving other people.

Mini Review:

When I read in the Author’s Note that Constellations was a source for this book I was like I KNEW IT, because it really reminded me of that wonderful play. One I studied at Uni, and one that has a special place in my hear. This novel captures that “multiverse” idea perfectly, constantly making the reader think of what could be, not only in the story, but in their own lives to.

The writing is that pretty, flowery, engaging and descriptive type that we all love in YA. It tackles sensitive matters (drugs, mental health) with kindness, ease but without shying away from them, the mark of a truly brilliant writer.

Adelaide’s voice in not perfect, but she’s loveable. You’re there with her through it all. I enjoyed her through the different sections in the book (current, alternate, text messaging) as she grapples with the highs and lows of loving people. And them possibly not loving you.

The whole atmosphere of the book is peaceful, despite the sometimes heavy topics, because the writing flows so well. I found myself looking forward to reading it. I think the Playlist I have curated fits the book PERFECTLY.

The most well crafted book I’ve read so far this year.

★★★★.5

My Again Again Playlist:

As I said above, this book is so atmospheric and is the perfect book to have a playlist accompany it. If you play the playlist in order, each song corresponds with a chapter, or you can shuffle it for a general vibe of the book. It took me a long time to put together, so I really hope you enjoy using it as much as I did putting it together!
